Titanic Actress Image Biography
Nicknamed the English Rose for her classic beauty and decorous maturity, Kate Winslet is one of the finest actresses of her time, but most guys would stray away from recognizing her as a celebrity babe because she may not exactly fit the characteristic Hollywood mold of most female stars. A quick note to those you don’t find Kate to be attractive: People magazine chose her as one of their “50 Most Beautiful People in the World” in 1996 and she’s never looked better since. In fact, Kate is perfectly happy with her naturally good looks and doesn’t seem to care too much about the plastic surgery and diet crazes that have swept the acting industry over the past decade. Most importantly, Kate has the amazing career record to prove that she is also incredibly talented in front of the camera. Born in England in 1975, Kate Winslet was born into a family of acting, the granddaughter of theater owners and the daughter of two actors, the young actress’ family members were also known for their appearances on the stage as well. Making her official debut at the age of eleven, Kate starred alongside the Honey Monster in a television commercial for Sugar Puffs cereal. After attending acting lessons and graduating from a performing arts school, Kate finally took to the stage in a number of productions before making her rounds on the television sitcom circuit.

Kate’s first major film role came in 1994 when Peter Jackson cast the young starlet in his film “Heavenly Creatures” and she quickly rose to star status after delivering an Oscar-nominated performance in Ang Lee’s “Sense and Sensibility” alongside Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson. Kate followed up her award-winning role with two more period pieces (“Jude” and “Hamlet”) before finally getting her big break as the leading actress in “Titanic” in 1997. The film cleaned up at the Oscars the following year, and even though she had been nominated as a Best Supporting Actress for the film, she was one of the few nominees that didn’t take home a golden statue. She was, however, the youngest actress in history to be nominated for two Oscars. Choosing to continue her career as an indie actress, Kate turned down what became the Gwyneth Paltrow role in “Shakespeare in Love” in order to mature as an artist in lesser-known films like “Hideous Kinky” and “Holy Smoke.” The actress still makes her living off of small-paying independent features, but of late, the alternative films that she has chosen have found mainstream audiences. Kate has been long since due for an Oscar since she made her breakthrough into the film industry and it’s only a matter of time until she’s fully recognized for her potential as an actress.
